6th of December we made a visit to Tambuka Reli Primary School. It feels good to know that thanks to us and to our sponsors these kids get a chance to education and to do something of therír dreams. We asked them what is most fun in school. To learn and to upgrade was the common answer. Future dreams for profession were police, teacher, captain, tailor, carpenter. One of the girls, Eunice, wants to be director, with a big office....

Gatuungdomars verklighet
Livet

Why street? Why don´t they return home?
There are reasons why young people in ages that range from 7 up to 18 choose to live on the street rather than at home. Some leave because they frankly don´t have space at home, some of them are even chased away because of poverty. But it is not happening only because of poverty and economical reasons. Some maybe are beaten and treated badly by parents, stepmothers or stepfathers. These kids who are not accepting bad treatment, neglect of care, they are the ones who leave.
They are often the strong ones.
In Mwanza there are some centers for street youth under 18 years. Not all of the youth on the street can be offered places. Many of them have problems to adapt to the life in a center and therefor run away.
We want to give these young boys and girls a chance to regain trust in adults and the community!
We want to give them a chance to reach their potential!
Roots & Culture Foundation is a community of painters in Mwanza, supporting street youth. For the moment they have 8 young boys attending workshops in african traditional painting. Some of these boys are still living on the street and some are supported with room rent by Roots and Culture. The plan is to be able to support all of them with basic needs, health check ups and schooling. But with the income the painters get from selling paintings they are not able to support all of them.
During workshops the boys get food for the day and food for life, so to speak. Confident relations are built. Skills for a future independent life are given.
We have seen the changes in this youth, attending the workshops. The changes are remarkable. Many of the boys were feared by others on the street before, but are now acting totally opposite. Now they are welcoming, open and communicative.

FI9449700010098190.
Genom att ha en regelbunden inkomst (av
månatliga donatorer) skulle Mwembe kunna göra
mer konkreta och långsiktiga
planer. Små summor pengar gör stor skillnad i Mwanza.
stor skillnad i enskilda barns liv!

Butimba parent support
Work is going on in Mwanza. Me and Emma are here to plan activities and our support to Ni Hekima Pekee and Roots and Culture Foundation. We have joined parent support group meetings. The parents to the vulnerable children are dividied into small groups where they themselves come up with ideas how they can generate their own income and solve other eventual problems in the family. The intention is to support them with loans.Through councelling and guiding they should find ways to be selfsustainable and to better living conditions. The material needs are many. Some of the children lives at their neighbours or with relatives because of too small space in the house. They sleep on mats, some families also lack food support. These living conditions leads to health problems.
Still there are children in Butimba not attending school. Which means we need school supplies.
Education is our first priority but we will now also start to provide the families with support to improve their income. The amounts asked for range from 25 - 250 euro.
On monday Ni Hekima Pekee will start a training programme in entrepeneursship with volunteering teachers so this will not cause any other costs than pens and papers. The course is for one week per each group.
In January we will start to support Ni Hekima Pekee with funds for loans. For that we need to raise funds now. The number of households attending this support program about 30.
We will soon be back with more information about Roots and Culture Foundation program.

Butimba rocks!
Things are running on well in Butimba. Our volunteer from Morogoro, Pamela Kalanje, is now having parent support groups twice a week. There are five groups and the main intention is to find ways to income for the parents of the children we support to school. But also the parent needs support in their parenthood.
We now support up to 30 children with school supplies.
And there is still need of school supplies, more children deserves the chance to an education.
Arbetet löper bra i Butimba.
i föräldraskapet.

Stort tack - big thanks to - Veera and Emilia
Our activity in Mwanza goes on and new needs are discovered. In Butimba ward we have registered 10 mentally disabled children. There are a few government funded schools for mentally disabled children but they are not enough. Organizations are filling the need of schools and Ni Hekima Pekee has found one who could recieve these children after new year. Mwembe is supporting school supplies, transports and also an assisting person during transports. For that we need sponsoring.

The report of Veera and Emilia will be basis for an application for funding to the finnish embassy in Dar Es Salaam.
Stort tack till Veera och Emilia!
